The Department of Examinations has announced that the results of the 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination are expected to be released by the middle of June, amid growing speculation and widespread social media discussions regarding the official release date.

Responding to recent online reports claiming that the results would be released within the next few days, Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage clarified that no final date has yet been officially confirmed by the Department.

However, she stated that preparations are currently underway to release the results around mid-June if all remaining procedures are completed according to schedule.

According to the Department of Examinations, several important post-examination processes are still being carried out before the results can be officially published. These include paper marking, verification procedures, data processing, result compilation, and final accuracy checks.

Education authorities emphasized that maintaining fairness, transparency, and accuracy remains the highest priority before releasing national examination results, especially given the large number of students who sat for the examination this year.

The 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination was conducted islandwide from February 17 to February 26 at examination centres across Sri Lanka.

Official figures released by the Department show that a total of 451,463 candidates sat for the examination this year. Among them, 382,249 candidates appeared as school applicants while 69,214 sat as private candidates.

The G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination remains one of the most important public examinations in Sri Lanka’s education system, playing a crucial role in determining eligibility for Advanced Level studies and influencing future academic and career pathways for thousands of students each year.

Following the completion of the examination, students and parents across the country have been eagerly awaiting the release of the results, with many turning to social media platforms for updates and unofficial information. However, education authorities have repeatedly advised the public not to rely on unverified online claims regarding examination result dates.

For Sri Lanka, the timely release of examination results is particularly important because delays can affect Advanced Level admissions, school academic calendars, vocational training applications, and other educational opportunities. Teachers, principals, and education unions have also called for efficient processing in order to minimize disruptions to the national education schedule.

In recent years, national examination result announcements have increasingly become major topics of online discussion, often leading to confusion due to misleading social media posts and false reports. Education officials say such misinformation can create unnecessary stress and anxiety among students and parents already facing pressure over examination outcomes.

Meanwhile, many students are expected to use their O/L results to apply for Advanced Level streams, vocational education programmes, technical colleges, and other higher education opportunities over the coming months.

The Department of Examinations assured that all necessary measures are being taken to complete the process as efficiently as possible while ensuring accuracy and fairness for every candidate. Officials also confirmed that any official announcement regarding the exact release date would be communicated through recognized government channels and mainstream media platforms.

Students and parents have been advised to continue following official updates issued directly by the Department of Examinations for confirmed information regarding the release of the 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level results.
