Global pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against electronics giant Samsung, claiming the company used her image on television packaging without her permission.
According to reports, the singer is seeking damages amounting to USD 15 million through a lawsuit filed in a California court.
The legal filing alleges that Samsung used a photograph of Dua Lipa taken during her 2024 Austin City Limits Festival performance on packaging for televisions sold in the United States. Her legal team claims the company used the image to promote and market its products without obtaining proper authorization.
The lawsuit further states that the image became widely recognised online after social media users began referring to the packaging as the “Dua Lipa TV Box.” Some users even commented that they would purchase the television simply because her photo appeared on the box.
Dua Lipa’s lawyers argue that Samsung ignored multiple requests to stop using the image and continued benefiting from her popularity and brand value. The case includes allegations related to copyright infringement, trademark violations and unauthorized commercial use of her likeness.
Samsung, however, has denied the accusations. In a statement, the company said the image had been provided by a third-party content partner connected to Samsung TV Plus and was used only after assurances were given that all necessary permissions had already been secured.
The company also stated that it respects the intellectual property rights of artists and remains open to resolving the matter with Dua Lipa’s team.
Dua Lipa, one of the world’s leading pop stars, currently has endorsement deals with several international brands including Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent and Nespresso.
