Sri Lanka’s export sector recorded US$12.01 billion in total earnings during the first eight months of 2026, surpassing the US$12 billion mark and showing year-on-year growth.

According to the latest figures, export earnings from January to August 2026 increased by 4.26% compared with the corresponding period of 2025.

During the first eight months of last year, Sri Lanka recorded export earnings of US$11.52 billion. This means earnings increased by approximately US$490 million over the comparable period.

The figures indicate continued growth in the country’s export earnings during the first two-thirds of 2026, with the total exceeding US$12 billion by the end of August.

Export earnings are an important source of foreign exchange for Sri Lanka and contribute to the country’s external trade and broader economic activity.

Based on the reported figures, the latest performance represents a 4.26% year-on-year increase, with earnings rising from US$11.52 billion in the January-August 2025 period to US$12.01 billion during the same period this year.
