The Anuradhapura High Court has sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of possessing heroin.
The sentence was delivered today (30) by the Anuradhapura High Court after the prosecution successfully proved that the accused was in possession of 3.074 grams of heroin.
The convicted individual is a resident of Kekirawa Road in Thalawa.
Court proceedings had continued for more than four years before the prosecution established the charges beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the conviction and the imposition of a life sentence.
The case originated following a tip-off received by a Sub-Inspector attached to the Thalawa Police Station regarding the possession of illegal narcotics.
Acting on the intelligence, a team of police officers led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Thalawa Police Station arrested the suspect and produced him before court.
Following the trial, the High Court found the accused guilty and imposed a sentence of life imprisonment in accordance with the law.
