Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has filed an intervening petition before the Court of Appeal in relation to the petition submitted by former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Salley, challenging his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) over investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

In the intervening petition, the Cardinal has requested permission from the Court of Appeal to present submissions in the case as an intervening party.

He has also urged the Court to dismiss Suresh Salley's petition.

Salley's petition challenges the legality of his arrest and detention under the PTA in connection with the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.

The latest filing marks another significant legal development in the series of court proceedings relating to the Easter Sunday terror attack investigations.
