The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is set for another exciting season as several leading international and Sri Lankan cricketers have already been confirmed by franchises ahead of the official Player Draft scheduled for June 1 in Colombo.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the sixth edition of the tournament will be held from July 17 to August 8 across Colombo, Pallekele and Dambulla.
The tournament will feature five franchises competing in 20 league-stage matches, followed by the Qualifiers, Eliminator and the Final.
This year’s pre-signing window has attracted a strong mix of experienced international stars, proven T20 performers and emerging talents, highlighting the growing reputation of the league on the global cricket stage.
Former Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has joined Kandy Royals after recently announcing his retirement from Indian domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League. His arrival adds valuable experience and all-round strength to the former champions.
Kandy Royals have assembled an impressive group of pre-signed players including Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, Moeen Ali and Vijay Shankar, giving the franchise a balanced combination of leadership, experience and T20 expertise.
Dambulla Sixers have secured Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan, who gained international attention with his performances at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He will be joined by South African opener Reeza Hendricks along with Sri Lankan stars Dinesh Chandimal and Dushmantha Chameera.
Four-time champions Jaffna Kings have strengthened their squad with Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dunith Wellalage add further local strength.
Colombo Kaps have signed New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and Australian batter Ben McDermott, who will join Sri Lankan batting talents Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis.
Meanwhile, Galle Gallants have secured Dasun Shanaka, Eshan Malinga, South African batter Rassie van der Dussen and Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza as part of their pre-signed roster.
LPL Director Samantha Dodanwela stated that the quality of players joining the tournament reflects the league’s growing stature as a competitive T20 platform.
He noted that the combination of leading Sri Lankan players and experienced international cricketers will enhance the competition while providing fans with a high-quality cricketing spectacle.
The remaining squad positions will be finalized through the official Player Draft on June 1 as franchises complete their squads ahead of the 2026 season.
