A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Wellawatta for allegedly possessing and selling liquor without legal authorization, police said.
The arrest was made during a special raid conducted by officers attached to the Colombo South Division Crimes Investigation Unit along Daya Road in Wellawatta.
During the operation, officers recovered a large stock of liquor and beer believed to have been intended for illegal sale.
The seized items included 67 bottles of 750ml liquor, 66 bottles of 375ml liquor, 217 bottles of 180ml liquor and 327 cans of 500ml beer.
Police said the suspect, a resident of Wellawatta, was taken into custody at the scene along with the stock of alcoholic beverages.
The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to the Wellawatta Police for further legal action.
Authorities have launched further investigations to determine the extent of the alleged illegal liquor distribution operation.
