Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi on Monday (23) during the latter’s visit to India for the 16th BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives Meeting.
The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts by both countries to stabilize bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation on regional and global issues.
According to reports, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining the long-standing relationship between India and China despite evolving global challenges. He noted that both nations should continue high-level engagement and work together to promote practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Modi also highlighted the need for India and China to safeguard the common interests of developing nations and contribute to the advancement of the Global South through closer collaboration.
During the discussions, the Indian Prime Minister expressed support for China as it prepares to assume the BRICS chairmanship next year. He further stated that India looks forward to working closely with China to promote the continued development and influence of the BRICS grouping.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to implementing the important understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries. He stressed the importance of strengthening mutual trust, managing sensitive issues appropriately and expanding cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors.
Wang Yi also noted that maintaining the positive momentum in India-China relations would help both countries advance their modernization goals while contributing to regional stability and economic development.
The meeting is viewed as another step in ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at improving engagement between Asia’s two largest economies while enhancing cooperation through multilateral platforms such as BRICS.
