Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya departed for Qatar on Monday (14) to pay her final respects to the late former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to formally convey the condolences of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the leadership and people of Qatar following the passing of the former Emir.

The visit is also expected to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Qatar while underscoring both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.

In addition to the Prime Minister’s delegation, several Opposition Members of Parliament also travelled to Doha to attend the funeral ceremony.

According to airport sources, the delegation departed from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at approximately 6:50 p.m. on SriLankan Airlines flight UL217 bound for Doha.
