Police have recovered the motor vehicle believed to have been used by the gunmen involved in the fatal shooting reported this morning in the Wettumakada area of Kalutara.

According to Police, the abandoned vehicle was discovered near the Nebada Post Office in the Tebuwana area following a search operation launched after the shooting incident.

The shooting took place earlier today when armed individuals travelling in a car allegedly opened fire at a man who was riding a motorcycle in the Wettumakada area.

The victim sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately admitted to the Nagoda Hospital in Kalutara for emergency treatment.

However, hospital sources confirmed that the injured man later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Officers are currently conducting further examinations on the vehicle while reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas as part of ongoing investigations.

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been officially confirmed, although police suspect the incident may be linked to an organized criminal dispute.

The Kalutara Police and several specialized investigation units have launched operations to track down and arrest those responsible for the shooting.

Recent months have seen a rise in shooting incidents linked to organized crime activities in several parts of the country, leading authorities to intensify security operations and intelligence gathering efforts.
