Global music icon Shakira is set to headline the opening ceremony of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Mexico, FIFA has officially announced.

The Colombian superstar will perform the tournament’s official song, “Dai Dai,” during the opening ceremony scheduled to take place at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

According to FIFA, Shakira will be joined on stage by Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, adding further star power to one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world.

The opening ceremony is expected to begin approximately 90 minutes before the tournament’s opening match between Mexico and South Africa, providing fans with a major entertainment showcase ahead of kickoff.

The official World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai,” takes its name from an Italian phrase commonly translated as “Let’s Go” or “Come On,” reflecting the energy and excitement associated with the global football tournament.

In addition to Shakira and Burna Boy, the ceremony will also feature performances from internationally renowned Colombian artist J Balvin and South African singer Tyla, creating a multicultural celebration representing different regions of the world.

FIFA officials say the opening show has been designed to highlight music, culture and unity while celebrating football’s ability to bring together people from diverse backgrounds.

Shakira's participation has generated significant excitement among football fans and music lovers alike. The singer has become closely associated with major international football tournaments over the years, particularly following the worldwide success of her World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Adding to her involvement in the tournament, FIFA has also confirmed that Shakira will perform during the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show, which is scheduled to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The introduction of a halftime entertainment show for the World Cup final marks a historic moment for the tournament and reflects FIFA’s efforts to expand the global entertainment experience surrounding football’s biggest event.

With some of the world's most recognizable music stars set to perform, the opening ceremony is expected to attract a massive global television and online audience, further enhancing the spectacle surrounding the start of the FIFA World Cup.
