Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology has warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres could occur in several areas tomorrow as a low-level atmospheric disturbance continues to affect weather conditions around the island.
According to the Department, the atmospheric disturbance currently prevailing in the vicinity of Sri Lanka is expected to persist, bringing increased cloud cover and unsettled weather to several parts of the country.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts.
Some locations within these areas could receive more than 100 mm of rainfall, the Department said.
Weather conditions are also expected to become unsettled elsewhere in the country during the afternoon. Showers or thundershowers are forecast at several locations in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.
The public has been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly due to the possibility of temporary strong winds and lightning.
People are urged to take appropriate precautions to minimise potential damage and avoid unnecessary exposure to lightning and strong winds when thunderstorms develop.
Residents in areas experiencing prolonged or intense rainfall should also remain attentive to further official weather advisories as conditions develop.
