Two fishermen were rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy after a fishing boat met with an accident off the coast of Trincomalee, while search operations are continuing to locate another individual believed to be the owner of the vessel.

According to officials, the accident occurred approximately three nautical miles off the Trincomalee coast.

The rescued fishermen have been identified as a father and his son, who were aboard the vessel when the incident occurred.

Authorities said the three men had departed for a fishing expedition on the morning of July 3.

The rescue operation was launched after the China Bay Police received information that the fishing boat had encountered an accident at sea.

The Sri Lanka Navy subsequently carried out a search and rescue mission, successfully bringing the father and son to safety.

Search operations are continuing to locate the remaining individual.
