The Container Transport Owners’ Association (CTOA) has announced a 5% increase in container transportation charges with effect from today (01), citing rising operating costs following the recent fuel price hike.

Speaking at a media briefing, CTOA Chairman Sanath Manjula stated that the revised rates have come into immediate effect and will apply to all container transport services across the country.

According to the Association, the decision was taken after the latest fuel price revision imposed additional financial pressure on transport operators.

The increase follows the fuel price adjustment announced by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco), which came into effect from midnight on May 30.

Under the revised fuel prices, Auto Diesel increased by Rs. 15 to Rs. 407 per litre, while Super Diesel rose by Rs. 20 to Rs. 478 per litre.

Petrol 92 Octane was increased by Rs. 24 to Rs. 434 per litre, while Petrol 95 Octane rose by Rs. 25 to Rs. 495 per litre.

The Association noted that the fuel price hike has directly impacted transportation costs, prompting the decision to revise container transport charges.

Industry stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the impact of the increase on logistics and supply chain operations in the coming weeks.
