The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has appointed a five-member panel of specialist forensic psychiatrists to examine former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Sallay and submit a report regarding allegations that he may have been subjected to mistreatment while in custody.

The order was issued today (10) by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara during proceedings related to the ongoing case involving the former intelligence chief.

According to the court order, the medical examination is to be conducted at the South Colombo Teaching Hospital by the appointed panel of experts.

The court has instructed the medical board to assess Sallay’s physical and psychological condition and submit its findings to the court.

The magistrate further directed that the completed medical report be presented during the next court hearing.

The appointment of the specialist panel follows claims that Sallay may have been subjected to ill-treatment while being detained and questioned by investigators. The findings of the medical assessment are expected to assist the court in determining the facts surrounding those allegations.

Further proceedings in the case are scheduled to continue following the submission of the expert report.
