The Colombo High Court has sentenced former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena to a total of 16 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty on four corruption-related charges.

The judgment was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal, who imposed a four-year rigorous imprisonment term for each of the four charges.

According to the court ruling, the sentences were handed down following the conclusion of proceedings related to the corruption allegations brought against the former deputy minister.

The case was heard before the Colombo High Court, which found sufficient evidence to convict Gunawardena on all four counts presented by the prosecution.

The verdict marks the conclusion of a high-profile legal case involving a former public official and highlights ongoing efforts to address corruption-related offences through the judicial process.

Further legal proceedings and any potential appeals are expected to follow in accordance with Sri Lanka’s legal framework.
