The Court of Appeal has postponed further submissions in a petition filed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection with investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

The case was taken up for the second consecutive day today (24) before a Court of Appeal bench comprising President of the Court of Appeal Justice Rohana Abeysooriya and Justice Sarath Dissanayake.

During today’s proceedings, President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva, appearing on behalf of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, continued presenting arguments in support of the petition.

The former President is seeking judicial intervention to prevent any arrest in relation to ongoing investigations linked to the Easter Sunday attacks, one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in Sri Lanka’s history.

Following the submissions made before court, the bench decided to postpone further consideration of the matter until July 6.

The petition remains under review, with additional arguments expected to be presented when the case is called again next month.
