Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has filed a petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order preventing his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The petition has been submitted through Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardane.

According to court documents, the respondents named in the application include the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara, and CID officer Madhawa Gunawardena.

The petition requests the Court of Appeal to issue appropriate legal relief preventing authorities from taking action to arrest the former President under the provisions of the PTA while investigations continue.

The application comes amid ongoing investigations related to the Easter Sunday attacks, which remain one of the most significant criminal investigations in Sri Lanka's recent history.

The Court of Appeal is expected to consider the petition and determine the next course of legal proceedings.
