The government has requested consumers with rooftop solar power systems exceeding 300 kilowatts to temporarily switch off their systems from June 27 to June 29 in order to maintain the stability of Sri Lanka’s national electricity grid.
The announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Energy Ilyas Mohamed Arkam while addressing Parliament today (26).
According to the Deputy Minister, the temporary measure has been introduced as a precaution to prevent disruptions to the power system during the period.
He stated that reducing electricity generated from large rooftop solar installations would help avoid a repeat of the sudden nationwide power outage experienced during the Vesak holiday.
The Deputy Minister noted that maintaining grid stability remains a priority as electricity generation patterns fluctuate due to increased renewable energy production.
Authorities have therefore requested the cooperation of consumers operating rooftop solar systems with capacities exceeding 300 kilowatts for the three-day period.
