Major General Nilantha Premaratne has been appointed as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, marking a key leadership change within the country's military.

With his appointment, he will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, in accordance with military protocol.

Major General Premaratne is an alumnus of St. Servatius' College, Matara, and most recently served as the 69th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army before assuming his new role.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army under Intake No. 34 and has held several senior appointments during his military career.

In addition to his command responsibilities, he previously served as the Military Spokesperson of the Sri Lanka Army, representing the institution on numerous national matters.

His appointment comes as the Sri Lanka Army undergoes its latest leadership transition.
