Sri Lanka's Parliament is scheduled to hold an adjournment debate on August 5 regarding the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) report into the alleged fraud linked to the US$2.5 million debt repayment to Australia.
According to Secretary-General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, the debate was requested by the Opposition and will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Parliament is set to convene from August 4 to August 7, following decisions taken by the Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
On August 4, lawmakers are expected to debate and approve the Supplementary Estimate for the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, as well as the determination relating to the salary of the Auditor General. Proceedings will conclude with a government adjournment motion.
On August 5, parliamentary business will begin with routine proceedings, followed by questions to the Prime Minister, oral questions, and questions under Standing Orders before the adjournment debate on the COPF report.
The parliamentary agenda for August 6 includes the Second Reading of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (Amendment) Bill and the Animals (Amendment) Bill, provided the legislation is not challenged before the Supreme Court under Article 121 of the Constitution.
The final sitting day, August 7, has been allocated for debates on several Private Members' Motions, followed by adjournment-time questions.
