The Sri Lanka Army has launched a large-scale islandwide dengue prevention and public awareness campaign today (05), targeting areas identified as being at high risk for the spread of dengue.
The special programme has been organized in parallel with the national "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative and is being carried out under the direct guidance and supervision of Army Commander Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo.
According to the Army, 2,026 soldiers representing Security Force Headquarters, divisions, brigades and military units have been deployed to support the operation.
Dengue prevention activities have been conducted in several locations across the country, including Gunasinghepura and the Private Bus Stand in Colombo, the Pettah Floating Market, Delgoda Bus Stand, Abeysingharamaya Temple in Panchikawatte, Crow Island Children's Park, Homagama, Kaduwela, Battaramulla, Nawagamuwa, areas surrounding the Department of Immigration and Emigration, as well as Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Kegalle, Wennappuwa and Palaviya.
The programme includes the removal of mosquito breeding sites, clearing waste and stagnant water, and conducting awareness campaigns for residents, schoolchildren and teachers on preventing the spread of dengue.
Health authorities continue to encourage the public to maintain clean surroundings and actively support dengue control efforts as the number of infections remains elevated across several parts of the country.
