Sri Lanka has recorded nearly 83,000 dengue cases so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU), highlighting the continued spread of the mosquito-borne disease across the country.
The NDCU stated that 82,838 dengue infections had been reported nationwide as of July 27, reflecting a steady rise in the number of confirmed cases.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites around homes, workplaces and public areas to help curb the spread of dengue.
Residents are also advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting or skin rashes, as early diagnosis and treatment can reduce the risk of severe complications.
The health sector has continued surveillance and mosquito control programmes in high-risk areas as the country experiences an increase in dengue infections.
