Sri Lanka’s dengue outbreak continues to intensify, with the total number of reported infections surpassing 71,000 this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest data released by the NDCU shows that 71,235 dengue cases had been reported across the country as of July 14, while the dengue-related death toll has increased to 49.
Health authorities said 1,284 new dengue cases were reported on July 14 alone, indicating that the spread of the mosquito-borne disease remains a significant public health concern.
The Western Province continues to be the hardest-hit region, accounting for 37,490 reported cases this year.
Within the province, Gampaha District has recorded the highest number of infections with 14,736 cases, followed closely by Colombo District, which has reported 14,229 cases.
Meanwhile, 15,856 dengue infections have been reported during the first 14 days of July, reflecting the rapid rise in case numbers this month.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, June remains the worst-affected month of the year so far, with 21,538 dengue cases recorded during the month.
Health officials continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings, and seek immediate medical attention if dengue symptoms develop.
