Sri Lanka continues to experience a significant rise in dengue infections, with the total number of reported cases surpassing 56,000 so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest data released by the NDCU shows that 56,422 dengue cases have been reported nationwide since the beginning of the year, while the number of dengue-related deaths has increased to 35.
Health authorities also reported that 1,025 new dengue cases were recorded within the past 24 hours, highlighting the continued spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
The increase comes as several parts of the country continue to experience rainy weather, creating favourable conditions for mosquito breeding.
Authorities have urged the public to eliminate stagnant water around homes, schools, workplaces and public spaces, while supporting ongoing dengue control programmes being carried out across the country.
Health officials warn that continued public cooperation remains essential to reducing the spread of dengue and preventing further infections.
