Sri Lanka has recorded 42 dengue-related deaths so far this year, as the total number of reported infections continues to rise across the country, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).

Acting Director of the NDCU, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said that 63,835 dengue cases had been reported nationwide as of yesterday (08).

He noted that 8,450 infections were recorded during the month of July alone, highlighting the continued spread of the mosquito-borne disease during the ongoing rainy season.

Dr. Kannangara also said that health authorities will continue conducting special dengue prevention and mosquito control programmes in the coming days to curb the spread of the disease.

Officials continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by removing stagnant water and maintaining clean surroundings, while seeking immediate medical attention if dengue symptoms develop.
