Sri Lanka continues to experience a sharp rise in dengue infections, with 13,293 cases reported during the first 12 days of July, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest figures released by the NDCU show that the country’s cumulative dengue caseload has increased to 68,672 cases as of July 12.
Health authorities noted that the total number of reported dengue cases stood at 68,071 on July 11, meaning 601 new infections were recorded within a single day.
The Western Province remains the country’s worst-affected region, accounting for 36,118 dengue cases reported so far this year.
Among the districts, Gampaha has recorded the highest number of infections with 14,112 cases, followed by Colombo with 13,791 cases.
Officials also noted that June recorded the highest monthly caseload this year, with 21,538 dengue infections reported during the month.
Meanwhile, the dengue-related death toll has reached 47 so far this year.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings and seek early medical attention if symptoms such as persistent fever develop.
