Sri Lanka has recorded more than 68,000 dengue infections so far this year, while the number of dengue-related deaths has increased to 47, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest figures released by the NDCU show that 68,071 dengue cases have been reported across the country to date, highlighting the continued spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
Health authorities noted that June recorded the highest monthly caseload, with 21,538 infections reported during the month.
The upward trend has continued into July, with 12,692 dengue cases confirmed during the first 11 days of the month alone.
Province-wise, the Western Province remains the worst-affected region, reporting 35,823 dengue cases so far this year.
The Southern Province has recorded 10,657 infections, while Sabaragamuwa Province has reported 5,756 cases. The Kandy District has also recorded a significant number of infections, with 5,560 cases reported.
Health officials continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, keep their surroundings clean, and seek immediate medical attention if dengue symptoms develop, as prevention and awareness programmes continue across the country.
