The wife and legal representative of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay have formally requested permission from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to visit him daily while he remains under medical treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
The requests were submitted through separate letters addressed to the Director of the CID following a recent court ruling that declined to grant such access.
Suresh Sallay, who is currently being held under a detention order in connection with investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, remains under medical supervision while in CID custody.
When the matter was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on June 10, lawyers representing Sallay requested an order allowing his wife and son to visit him each day during official hospital visiting hours.
However, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara ruled that the court did not have the authority to issue such an order, noting that Sallay is being detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
Following the court’s decision, Sallay’s wife directly appealed to the CID Director, seeking approval for daily family visits while he undergoes treatment.
His attorney, Asith Siriwardena, also submitted a separate request, stating that regular access to his client is necessary to monitor his health, protect his legal rights, and keep the court informed of any significant developments.
The lawyer further noted that ongoing communication is particularly important in light of reports that Sallay is continuing a hunger strike while in custody.
Meanwhile, victims and relatives affected by the Easter Sunday attacks staged a silent protest near Baldiya Junction on the Negombo-Colombo main road, calling for an impartial investigation and urging authorities not to interfere with ongoing legal proceedings.
